Add a small amount of pellets to the hopper and throw a large handful on the igniter in the fire pit. the fire should ignite longer auger tubes take a while to charge. The controller will stop feeding pellets after five minutes if the fire is not lit. So turning off and back to smoke will reset the igniter sequence.
